National Anthem Project
Blevins Elementary
March 3, 2017
National Anthem Day - On March 3, 1931, President Hoover signed a congressional resolution declaring the official anthem of the United States of America as the "Star Spangled Banner". Our elementary students completed a Patriotic Unit of study in music class ending with a special assembly on National Anthem Day.
Our plan was to build a "human flag" on the playground and sing the "Star Spangled Banner" together on National Anthem Day. Due to some audio difficulties, the music portion did not quite go as planned. The students sang well, but had difficulty hearing each other and staying together with such a large group outdoors. Therefore, we have decided to post a time-lapse video of our attempt to build the flag (without sound).
Overall, our students seemed to have enjoyed the experience. I am particularly proud of our students' level of participation and enthusiasm while learning our national anthem and many other American songs. They have shown good respect, proper etiquette, and pride throughout this entire unit.
We learned a lot during this activity! Hope you enjoy watching our video and appreciate the efforts of all of these wonderful citizens!
